Excursion to Paderborn and Petershagen
03.08.2023

Gernheim

The excursion as part of the double exhibition CAUTION, GLASS!, organized by the Draiflessen Collection, took interested visitors to Paderborn and Petershagen and was quickly fully booked. In Paderborn, the participants were impressed by a guided tour of the Peters stained glass workshop, a family business that has been run for generations and combines traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Particular emphasis was placed on their important restoration work, such as the Altenberg Cathedral and the cathedrals of Seville and Chartres.

In Petershagen, the industrial monument Glashütte Gernheim with its 200-year-old cone tower, one of the last of its kind in Europe, offered fascinating insights. In the museum, visitors learned about the art of glassmakers who used traditional methods to create artistic vessels from red-hot glass. The excursion provided a comprehensive insight into the diversity of glass art, from historical to modern techniques, and shed light on the cultural heritage of the glass industry.
