New Additions to the Collection

Donation of leaded glass windows from the company H. Brenninkmeijer & Co.
Anton Heinrich (1849–1900), Felix (1855–1933) and Julius (1858–1939) share a common ancestor, Jan Hinric Brenninkmeijer (1729–1830), with the founders of C&A, Clemens (1818–1902) and August (1819–1892). Unlike the C&A line, their family line is known as the Leeuwarden line of the Brenninkmeijers. In Leeuwarden, they founded the company H. Brenninkmeijer & Co. in 1880, as indicated by the inscription on the leaded glass window.

Leaded Glass Window

The upper left part of the stained glass window shows a portrait of Felix Brenninkmeijer and the upper right part a portrait of Anton Heinrich Brenninkmeijer. The lower part shows Hermann Gregor (1885–1947) and Julius Leo (1893–1949), the sons of Anton Heinrich.
The window comes from the family's former commercial building in Leeuwarden, Over de Kelders 16–18.

Purchase Lilla Tabasso, Garden of Crispijn de Passe, 2025
Italian glass artist Lilla Tabasso (*1973) created a garden made of Murano glass especially for our cabinet exhibition A GARDEN FULL OF FLOWERS, for which she drew inspiration from the important botanical book “Hortus Floridus” by Dutch copperplate engraver Crispijn de Passe from 1614 from the Liberna Collection. The artwork was the centerpiece of the exhibition and was also commissioned for our collection in this context.
